Network Analysis of Positive Mental Characters, Depression, and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Among Chinese Adolescents
Abstract
Objective To explore the network relationships among positive mental characters, depression, and non-suicidal self-injury behaviors in Chinese adolescentsMethods A survey was conducted among middle school students (N = 11,320) using the Positive Mental Characters Scale for Chinese School Students, Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale and Adolescent Non-Suicidal Self-Injury Assessment Questionnaire. Network analysis was performed using R 4.4.2.Results Capacity to love and Hope showed the strongest correlations with depression dimensions and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). Humility and Appreciation of Beauty exhibited the highest bridging centrality indices among positive mental characters.Conclusion Capacity to love and Hope exert the most critical protective effects, while Humility and Appreciation of Beauty represent positive mental characters with the greatest intervention potential.
